Goldenbird is imagined by a California native & inspired by the California experience. We have an inherent appreciation for this iconic coastline and lifestyle, and put that at the heart of everything we do.

THE STUDIO

Goldenbird Design is a full service residential interior design studio based in San Francisco, California. The studio was founded in 2022 by McKenzy Golding, a former World Cup skier turned advertising executive turned interior designer. An unconventional background paired with an enduring love of nature supports Goldenbird’s fluid aesthetic, and ultimately leads to bespoke spaces that uniquely embody the clients who reside in them.

Goldenbird Design is currently working on projects across the greater Bay Area, including San Francisco, Marin County, Napa Valley and Palo Alto. We are accepting inquiries nationwide.

McKenzy Golding
Principal Designer and Founder

As a girl who grew up in Lake Tahoe, California, McKenzy lives for “bluebird powder days” and has always been energized by the mountains and by living at elevation—the air is clearer, sun stronger, colors richer, and scents sharper.

Travel has also been a huge part of McKenzy’s life starting back in her days as a United States Ski Team athlete. She believes that adventure is an important part of life and the spark of imagination. While California remains her truest form of inspiration, she curates from a growing number of corners of the world, including European ski villages, African markets and, of course, Petaluma antique shops.

McKenzy built her career as a marketing executive at culture-shaping brands like Lyft and Amazon. Goldenbird is grown from her experience planning a range of events and, most defining, renovating her and her husband’s first home. A true Bay Area fixer upper, this home-improvement journey is where she solidified her elevated California style.

Her work is a seamless juxtaposition of laid back and refined, balancing clean lines with layers of visual interest and cozy textures to create spaces that are both airy and inviting. McKenzy believes that there’s a lot of beauty in a little chaos, so her work is never overly-stylized, and she certainly doesn’t believe in over-engineering a moment. Her attention to every aspect of a space translates to an effortless, approachable style that’s authentically you and designed to be lived in.

McKenzy’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Casa Vogue, Homes & Gardens and Sunset Magazine. She lives in Marin with her husband and their 75-pound rescue, Revy, who fancies himself a lap dog. Their home has an open-door policy, where you’re sure to find them hosting an impromptu Sunday night dinner for their family and friends.
